Water Coning is the mechanism in which the water-oil contact locally rises toward the perforated interval in a pertially penetrated oil well. The problem of water coning into an oil well impacts the well productivity an increases operating cost in turn accelerates well abandoment.

Several methods have been employed to solve the problem of water production in oil wells. The experiance shows that, innovative water-control technique such as the combination of mechanical and chemical methods can lead to the most significant cost reductions and improved oil production.

Reverse Coning Device

This mechanical method was designed to extract oil in watery region by reversing the water throught the bottom of the device (RCD) and allowing oil flow from resevoir into the well that is shown in the following figure. With this approach, the oil recovery can be raised.

Case History

Sumatera : Production Doubled from Sihapas Formation Well.

Water problem and high paraffin content had lowered production to 10 BOPD

Results: A combination of water control treatment and reverse coning technique increased and sustained the oil production for long period of time as despicted in above figure.
